From the vaults…

Hi guys,
I’ve been on holidays which has given me a chance to make some new work and also do a bit of data management (backups!) of old work. I came across some portraits I did with a model friend of mine and thought I’d share some that hadn’t made it to display before. I really love simple lighting. Even though I’ve worked in different styles over the past few years, I think I keep striving for clean, simple work.

These were done with a single monoblock and a spotlight attachment. At the time, I was really into mid-twentieth century Hollywood portraiture. Without colour film and prints, photographers relied on distinct shadows to show the shape and features of the face. The way that the light shows these things is actually called ‘modelling’!
